Revelstoke Mountaineer Reads: Under the Tuscan Sun tempts your wanderlust

The Revelstoke Mountaineer Reads summer series tempts you with a culinary journey to the Italian countryside

We are headed in to a great summer season in Revelstoke and that means it’s time for farmers markets, long hikes, and exploring outdoor venues to eat our food in.

We also meet new people who have been bitten by the wanderlust bug and a few of us experience it ourselves.

I found myself daydreaming about travels a few days ago while sorting books, and this little gem popped out at me. It’s called Under the Tuscan Sun and it is written by Frances Mayes. Many people know this book already or have seen the light hearted film starring Diane Lane.

The movie was a major success. The book wasn’t. It got mixed reviews, with many of its detractors saying it didn’t connect with readers.

I like a good challenge so I thought I would give it a whirl — and I am glad I did.

The author spends a great deal of time painting a picture of these beautiful Italian landscapes, detailing the way the food tastes, looks and smells, and that was the perfect way to get to my senses. I couldn’t wait until I could get to the farmers market for some fresh basil.rm-reads-crop
