Photos: Revelstoke gathers for Remembrance Day

Mottled grey clouds cast a diffuse glow over the Revelstoke Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Revelstoke Cenotaph as the hundreds of residents gathered to pay their respects enjoyed a reprieve from the usual biting November cold.

The somber ceremony unfolded as always: a parade down Mackenzie Avenue and First Street, followed by speeches and the laying of wreaths at the foot of the cenotaph.

David Cooke of the Revelstoke United Church reminded those gathered to remember that conflicts create wounds that persist after physical ones have healed.

“In their memory, we commit ourselves in the name of peace,” he said.

Revelstoke mayor Gary Sulz thanked veterans for their service.

“If it were not for these brave men and women, our world would be infinitely different than it is today,” Sulz said.

On behalf of the legion, Gary Krestinsky requested support from the community to keep Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 viable.

“We must understand the necessity of supporting [the legion],” he said.
