Police Brief: two separate tractor-trailer drivers lose control on Highway 1

One highway closure and multiple non-life-threatening injuries have come as the result of two separate tractor-trailer accidents that took place near Revelstoke this week.

On Tuesday, March 26, at 5:15 p.m., the Revelstoke RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Revelstoke Volunteer Fire Department responded to a tractor-trailer unit that had rolled over while traveling westbound on the Trans-Canada highway, approximately 35 kilometers east of Revelstoke.

The accident happened when a 32-year-old driver from Alberta failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, causing the tractor-trailer to roll over.

The driver was transported to the Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH) with non-life threatening injuries, where he was later charged.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed for approximately five hours as a result of the accident.

On Wednesday, March 27 at 7:30 a.m., the emergency services responded to a single vehicle accident involving another tractor-trailer unit that had gone off the road approximately one kilometer east of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada highway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, heading westbound, crossed the centre line and entered the snowbank of the eastbound shoulder, preventing the tractor-trailer from going further down a steep embankment.

The 60-year-old driver from British Columbia was transported to the QVH with non-life threatening injuries and charged with a section of the Motor Vehicles Act relating to not having the correct licence.

There were no closures to the highway as a result of this accident.

Road and weather conditions were not a factor in either of the crashes.
