Brief: Skiers rescued after avalanche in Revelstoke Mountain Resort backcountry
Revelstoke Search & Rescue came to the rescue after two skiers were caught in an avalanche in a backcountry area on Mount Mackenzie, outside the Revelstoke Mountain Resort boundary.
Revelstoke Search & Rescue has been called in to rescue two skiers involved in an avalanche in a backcountry area on Mount Mackenzie outside the Revelstoke Mountain Resort boundary area.
Revelstoke RCMP received a call for help from one of the two men involved in the avalanche around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 24.
Police notified Revelstoke Search & Rescue, who responded in a helicopter to GPS coordinates the skier gave to the RCMP.
The pair were rescued and taken to Queen Victoria Hospital. Both of the individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
On Jan. 24, Avalanche Canada listed the avalanche danger rating for the North Columbia as moderate for all mountain elevations.
Revelstoke RCMP commended the search organization for the rescue and reminded backcountry users to take standard precautions, including checking avalanche ratings and being prepared with appropriate backcountry equipment and training.
