Safety netting designed to protect spectators from flying pucks is coming to the Revelstoke Forum later in November.
At the Forum, it’s not uncommon to see errant pucks zip into the crowd and injure spectators. At the Nov. 9 Revelstoke Grizzlies match, a young spectator was struck and injured by a puck, for example.
The City of Revelstoke provided this image of the new netting going up at the Revelstoke Forum later this month.
The new netting is a black Kevlar material that will wrap around the ice above the plexiglass boards. In a statement, city staff said the Kevlar is less visible and more durable than a black nylon alternative.
Revelstoke Grizzlies coach and GM Ryan Parent supported the move, citing fan safety. “For our club it’s about keeping people safe and free from injury while enjoying our games”
