Brief: Cyclist injured in collision at Townley and Fourth intersection

A Revelstoke cyclist was injured when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Fourth Street and Townley Avenue on Friday, June 8.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP said the incident happened under clear, dry conditions at around 3:15 p.m.

An Ontario man driving a black Honda Accord was turning left off of Townley Street onto Fourth Street East. The cyclist was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk on Fourth Street East when he was struck by the car.

The cyclist was transported to Queen Victoria Hospital with what police said were “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Revelstoke RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Thomas Blakney said the cyclist was wearing a high visibility vest and a helmet. “The driver of the Honda claimed that his field of view had been obstructed and did not see the cyclist,” Blakney said.

Police did not lay charges in the incident.

In a statement, the Revelstoke RCMP advised cyclists to wear helmets, saying the injuries could have been far more serious.

“Motorists as well as cyclists are also reminded to obey the rules of the road,” Blakney said.
