Brief: Akolkolex wildfire area restriction rescinded
The area restriction for the Akolkolex wildfire south of Revelstoke has been rescinded as of Aug. 24, 2022. The restriction had led to the closure of a popular forest service road network south of Revelstoke.
“Firefighting personnel no longer need to restrict public access to operate efficiently and safely in the area,” the BC Wildfire Service said in a statement.
The wildfire remains an active worksite and members of the public are asked to exercise caution.
As of Aug. 24, the Akolkolex fire is listed at 360 hectares and is out of control. The fire was discovered on Aug. 12 and it is suspected to be caused by a human.
