Best App Series: Best apps for killing time because your 8-month-old just fell asleep in the car

While there’s nothing like a little human interaction, we’ve complied the best apps by activity in this series of ten, for when humanity is just a little too much. Here is our third installment: the killing time because your 8 month old just fell asleep in the car apps.

Check back next Thursday for the fourth installment, Best Apps for Revelstoke’s small business owners

  1. ESPN (Free)

Check your scores. Like, all your scores. Customize to feature your favorite teams and trades. They have recently linked their twitter feed to the app so things have become even more real time. Always something new to see.

  1. Flipboard (Free)

Consolidate all of your favorite topics to read about in one app, then loose and then watch the next hour of your day evaporate! Curate your topics and news sources, read them now or save for after bath-book-bed time.

  1. Dots (Free)

You were up at 5:27 a.m., you both had a bath before 9:30 a.m., your kid actually ate vegetables and you did two and a half loads of laundry. You win. Now play mindless games until your beloved wakes up and your scraping hummus off of the roof. We recommend Dots.

  1. Google Play Books

Remember reading books? No, me neither. But let’s hold hands and pretend. With Google Play Books your books are stored conveniently in your phone or tablet. Unlimited storage, night-reading mode and over 4 million choices means all you have to do is find the time.

  1. Baby Monitor and Alarm ($2.99)

This app has been making the rounds for a while and it’s proven to be a parent-pleaser. Record your voice to play when your baby stirs or sing them a lullaby. Other features like Night Mode (dimmed screen displaying a cartoonish animal) and Activity Log (Record every noise to replay or forward to an email address) will have you questioning whether or not you’re watching old episode of the Jetsons.
