Child cyclist struck by vehicle in Revelstoke

A nine-year-old cyclist was seriously injured after she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Fourth Street and Edward Street on June 22.

Revelstoke RCMP say the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. The girl was crossing at a marked crosswalk at the intersection adjacent to Southside Market when she was struck. She was treated and taken to Queen Victoria Hospital with serious injuries after striking the hood of the vehicle. The child was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky urged caution on the roads. “Emergency Services personnel wish to remind drivers to be aware of cyclists and pedestrians and to always drive with caution. Cyclists are reminded to always wear bike helmets, make yourselves visible and follow the rules of the road.”
