28 fires started by lightning on Monday in Southeast Fire Centre
28 new fires were sparked in the Southeast Fire Centre on Monday as an electrical storm moved through the area.
Lightning strikes ignited 28 fires in the Southeast Fire Centre on Monday, bringing markedly increased fire activity to a region that has been largely spared so far this fire season.
The thunderstorms moved through the region south of Revelstoke, and no new fires are reported in the vicinity of Revelstoke. The nearest are a cluster of three fires just north of Nakusp, and four fires in the vicinity of Trout Lake.
Most of the fires are small in nature. Despite increased fire activity to the south, Revelstoke in the north is bearing the brunt of smoky air caused by other wildfires in B.C.
A campfire ban remains in effect for all of B.C.
