For the first time since October 2020, there have been zero new COVID-19 cases recorded in the Revelstoke Local Health Area (LHA).
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is reporting zero new cases for the Revelstoke LHA on Mar. 17, covering the period from Mar. 7–13.
Health authorities do not disclose active cases
There were no new cases detected in the LHA during that period, but it does not mean there are no active cases. Provincial health authorities do not provide data for the number of active cases on an LHA basis.
Presence of variants not disclosed at LHA level
A predominant storyline in the past month of the B.C. COVID-19 pandemic has been the race against time to vaccinate residents before COVID-19 variants of concern (VOCs) spread further.
The most recent provincial data lists 996 confirmed COVID-19 VOCs.
Health authorities do not disclose the presence of COVID-19 VOCs at the LHA level.
In good news, Interior Health bucks bad B.C. trends
In local good news, Interior Health appears to be the only health authority area that isn’t increasing in test positivity rates and new case rates.
Interior Health COVID-19 test positivity rates have declined steadily since the start of 2021, going from a peak of about 10.4% down to four per cent in the most recent available stat. However, all four other health authorities have seen test positivity rates increase between the start of 2021 and the most recent testing period.
For new COVID-19 cases recorded by health authorities, the daily case count in Interior Health peaked in mid-January at 122, but has declined fairly evenly since, and was at 31 on Mar. 17. Generally speaking, for all other health areas, the numbers have increased or remained about the same.
