Birch & Lace’s fourth annual Trashion Show took place on Sunday at the Revelstoke Legion. Sunny blue skies and light winds made for a perfect showground for the unique creations of talented local designers.

The event was first started four years ago by Birch & Lace owner, Sara Sansom, in an effort to reduce wastage by encouraging the reimagining and repurposing of trash.
This year, the judging panel consisted of Lexi Ast (host of the annual women’s clothing swap), Mike Brooks-Hill (president of the North Columbia Environmental Society), and previous winner, Alyssa Veerenhuis.
Four different models – including Tipper, the husky – took part in the event, showcasing the intricate creations of the designers. Outfits included a cardboard shoe-insert dress, a garbage bag and caution tape ensemble, and a cardboard and plastic bag structured dress.

Fourth place was served in the form of a milk bone for Tipper the dog, who gave an impressive and coordinated catwalk in light of his canine form.
In third place was Sabine Tomm with her garbage bag dress, modeled by Clara Kenyon.

Universal Footwear snagged second place with their wine-bottle inspired footwear ensemble, modeled by Cindy Holdener.

First place went to Lindy Silano with her colorful cardboard creation. The dress featured a plastic bag trim, teamed with a detailed wide-brim hat, clad with roses made from recycled cardboard.

All money raised from this event went to North Columbia Environmental Society and Wateraid Canada.
