Until June 25, the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre is hosting The Beekeeper, a photography exhibit shot by Nahanni McKay. Set in Vancouver, this display focuses on Dr. Mark Nigro, who is a beekeeper alongside his full-time job as a surgeon.
This exhibit is part of National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations. McKay is a Metis artist from Treaty 7 Territory, who currently lives in Banff, Alta. A photography graduate from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design, McKay is inspired by the coexistence of people and wildlife. Growing up in Banff National Park, McKay is hyperaware of the effects of tourism on the natural world.
Beekeeping is a popular topic in Revelstoke lately. The Beekeeper coincides with the Local Food Initiative’s Bee See program, which is offering educational tours of beehives all summer.
Although The Beekeeper is only in Revelstoke until June 25, it is permanently available on McKay’s website.
