A new 30-unit hotel to be located on Highway 23 North got development approvals from city council at their Feb. 12 meeting.
The hotel, using the name Basecamp Revelstoke, will have 30 units and two owner/operator units, for a total of 32.
The property, located at 405 Highway 23 North, is currently occupied by small, older, unoccupied cabin-style buildings.

The proponent of the development is Big Bend Development Corporation. City documents listed the owner as Stephen Platt, and the applicants as Robyn Mitchell of Big Moose Realty and James Clark of Systemic Architecture.

The development was before council for a development variance permit. The variances included allowing for extra height, and extra half-storey (from 2.5 to 3) and for part of the parking lot to encroach on the front setback.
The final development permit issuance is subject to several conditions, including a financial security deposit, and a highway access permit from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
At the council table on Feb. 12, councillors asked a number of detail questions about roof size, parking, aesthetics and other issues. They passed the development variance permit request unanimously.
