COVID-19 deaths not broken down into LHA level

Interior Health has confirmed that it does not provide statistics on deaths per LHA, except when that death is related to an outbreak they have declared. Deaths per health region, such as Interior Health, are available.

Currently, there is no outbreak declared in Interior Health (IH).

COVID-19 variants will not be reported by LHA

The rise of COVID-19 variants, such as those labelled the UK variant or the South Africa variant, will not be disclosed at the LHA level, only by health authority.

“Variant cases are not reported by LHA; for all COVID-19 cases, if there is a broader risk to other individuals or the community, Interior Health will issue a public notification,” an IH spokesperson said in an email reply to the Mountaineer.

In early February, the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, announced a UK strain variant had been detected in IH. An IH spokesperson said contract tracing was complete on that case. “There are no indications of broader community spread and the case is believed to have been exposed to the variant while travelling.”
