Society Snow & Skate’s S-Games V went off Mar. 28 at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The fifth-annual celebration of the fun side of snowboarding in Revelstoke attracted riders from around B.C. and Alberta for a fun jam outside of Revelation Lodge.
The lack of snow down low at RMR was a big challenge but a small army of volunteers managed to get the jib setup and big hip ready for the event on Saturday.
“Thanks to all our sponsors and RMR and definately a huge thanks to all our volunteers who help gave an put the course together,” said Society Snow & Skate owner and S-Games organizer Karl Jost. He gave a special thanks to snowcat operator Mike Boggs, who scraped together all the available snow to help get the hip together.
It was a righteous competition and the hundreds in the beer garden hollered approval.
Benoit Pageau was the winner of the hip comp and Rachel Johnson won the ladies’ jib competition. Guillaume Fortin won the men’s jib comp.
There were several visiting contingents, including Squamish-based pro Jess Kimura, Jake Blauvelt, Dinosaurs Will Die team members and riders from Vancouver.
The Sunday slalom was cancelled due to fog and weather issues.
