Revelstoke artist featured in Nelson mural festival

During the festival there will be free music,movement and art workshops, artist panels and documentary screenings.

The aecond annual Nelson International Mural Festival takes place August 16-18 in downtown Nelson and Revelstoke artists Benji Lowclass was the first to complete his mural.

Internationally acclaimed muralists from across Canada will be painting nine walls in total. Among the acclaimed artists are Montreal based Kevin Ledo, Vancouver’s JP Langois, Alberta’s Cassie Suche, UK based Alex Fawkes, Okanagan/Syilx artist Sheldon Pierre Louis and Kootenay artists Matty Kakes, Benji Lowclass and Jessa Gilbert.

NDAC Director and founder of Nelson International Mural Festival Sydney Black is very pleased with the evolution of the event “We are so excited to be working with artists (both performance and visual) who represent all members of our community.” she elaborates.  “We are honoured to be able to provide these creative experiences in a barrier free setting so that each and every human that desires a creative connection can come to our festival and have that. It’s a beautiful thing, when we all come together.”

The musical lineup that will headline the festival portion of the event is an unparalleled collection of British Coumbian talent. Among the artists are  CTVs ‘The Launch’ contestants Old Soul Rebel, Snotty Nose Rez Kid’s resident selector DJ Kookum and Vancouver’s first indigenous Poet Laureate Miss Christi Lee.

During the festival there will be music,movement and art workshops, artist panels and documentary screenings all absolutely free of charge. Local restaurants will host Nelson International Mural Festival patio parties, celebrating the power of public art.
