Alpine adaptations guided wildflower walks in Mount Revelstoke National Park

Aug 5, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 pm

Mount Revelstoke National Park is famous for its alpine wildflower displays – in fact, they inspired the establishment of the park in 1914. In this guided walking tour, learn how plants adapt to the cold, snowy, incredibly short summers in an alpine environment from a Parks Canada naturalist.
When: August 4th and 5th
1st Session | 10:30am – 11:30am
2nd Session | 2:30pm – 3:30pm
What to expect:
2.5 kilometre walk on uneven dirt trails with some steep sections (rated Easy by Mt. Revelstoke criteria). Participants need to have a valid Parks Canada pass to enter the park, and should be prepared with walking shoes, bug spray, water, and appropriate clothing for the cooler alpine weather (layers are recommended). There are outhouses, but no food, water, or beverage services at the Mt. Revelstoke summit area.
Free with National Parks Day Pass or Discovery Pass. Pre-registration is required. Call Mt. Revelstoke National Park at 250-814-4217.
Meeting point:
Mt. Revelstoke National Park: Balsam Lake Parking Lot bus shelter. Balsam Lake Parking Lot is the second parking lot located at the summit of Mt. Revelstoke, which is 26km (40-minute drive) away from downtown Revelstoke.
*Please note that dogs are not allowed in the summit area of Mount Revelstoke National Park, including within vehicles.
**In the event that the summit parking lots are full, passenger vehicles may be turned away from the parkway at the base and participants will not be able to access the meeting point. Arrive early to improve your chances of accessing the summit. Alternate location in case of limited alpine park access: Soren Sorenson parking lot at the Nels Nelson Historic Area.
